Description of Social Events

Early Birds are held prior to the official date of the Club opening. Club members volunteer to host these events and decide what the main course will be. Members bring a dish to pass and their own place settings. Early Birds are casual and sometimes are given a theme.

Spring Dinner is a dressy event where new members are formally introduced to the membership. A reception is held prior to dinner so new members can meet the Officers and Directors.

Sail Pass is a festive event held on Memorial Day and officially starts the boating season. Club members sail or motor past the clubhouse and exchange salutes with the Commodore. The Commodore’s punch bowl, hors d’oeuvres, and a luncheon buffet follow the Sail Pass. Attire is navy blue blazers and white trousers or skirts.

The annual Commodores’ Ball is a semi-formal to formal dinner dance to honor the present and all past Commodores.

Diehards are held on Saturday evenings after Labor Day when the dining room is closed for the season. The same format as Early Birds. Two annual events are the Steak Roast and Pig Roast.

Soup Supper is held the first part of October, with new members invited to bring a favorite soup to share. Members also bring a dish to pass and their own place settings.

At the Annual Meeting and Dinner, members hear the annual report and vote on a new Board of Directors. Appetizers and dinner follow the meeting. Attire is casual and follows the Diehard format for dinner.

The Awards Dinner is a combination costume party, dance, and award ceremony, hosted by the Race Committee. As the final event of the social season, this occasion vies for “best party of the season” honors every year. Don’t miss it!
